NO TRADE OFFS

“And Ahab spake unto Naboth, saying, Give me thy vineyard, that I may have it for a garden of herbs, because it is near unto my house: and I will give thee for it a better vineyard than it; or, if it seem good to thee, I will give thee the worth of it in money.” (1 Kings 21: 2)

That is the Focal Scripture of Streams of Joy Devotional today.

Our Focal Scripture speaks of how Ahab requested from Naboth to have his vineyard exchanged for money or for another vineyard. This vineyard was an inheritance from Naboth’s fathers. So, Ahab wanted Naboth to trade off what he got from his fathers. Whatever was received as an inheritance from the fathers was not expected to be traded off. So, Ahab wanted Naboth to trade off what ought not to be traded off.

Friend, never trade off your inheritance in Christ for anything ephemeral. The Ahabs of this world will offer you money to trade off what should never be traded off, but don’t fall for it. The Ahabs of this world will want you to abandon what heaven gave to you and replace same with what the world can give, but don’t fall for it. The Ahabs of this world want you to forgo what matters in the long term, and take what doesn’t matter; don’t fall for it.

Don’t allow the offers of ephemeral things to make you forgo what is important to heaven. Don’t trade off your values because of what man can give you. Don’t accept a lifestyle of sin because of resources that will expire sooner than later. Don’t allow the enemy to make you accept a life that is less than what God can offer, all in a bid to fit in. Don’t allow the desire to please the king make you lose what matters more.

When Naboth refused to trade his vineyard, Ahab went home. Like Naboth, be intentional to say no even if the Ahabs of this world want you to trade off your inheritance in Christ; they will go home and be fine. Be intentional to know the implication of trading off your inheritance in Christ. If you lose what God gave you, what will you pass on to your next generation? If you sacrifice what is important, to gain what is unimportant, you lose.

Don’t be counted amongst them that are willing to sell their vineyard in order to gain what is ephemeral. Don’t sacrifice your inheritance for anything.

Philippians 4: 8 says: “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”

Declare With Me: I will not lose my inheritance in exchange for what is ephemeral, in Jesus’ name!
