“4. And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born. 5. And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet,” (Matthew 2: 4-5)
That is the Focal Scripture of Streams of Joy Devotional today.
When the wise men came to Jerusalem in search of Jesus, they came to Herod in search of the new born king. Herod was ordinarily opposed to the birth of the new born king, but he was the one who arose to make enquiries from the chief priests about when the new born king would be born. Herod was the source of the information that helped the wise men to make progress. So, the wise men learnt from their opposition.
Friend, glean the wisdom of the wise men: learn from your opposition. Learn from those you think that hate you. Learn from your battles. Learn from the issues that came to shake your faith. Learn from the actions that men took against you. Learn from the loopholes that gave your adversaries the leeway to hit at you. Learn from every situation that put you in a bad place. Learn even from whatever you may have suffered through the year.
Don’t celebrate the end of crisis and forget the lessons arising from therein. Don’t be in a hurry to rejoice because the conflicts and conspiracies have ended, but dare to ask yourself what you learnt through it all. Grow through your opposition. Grow by learning even from your haters. Learn even from those who are working hard to scuttle your success and progress.
Even Jesus learnt obedience through the things He suffered. Sometimes, the wisdom you glean from past temptations will come handy when the next trial arrives. Sometimes, what you learn from past battles and mistakes is all you need to conquer the next challenge coming your way. The wisdom you gleaned from your past failures will enable you to prevail in your new season. Keep learning, even from the ‘Herod’s of this world.
If everyone approves of you, you will not grow. If everyone validates you, you will not need God as much as you truly do. Be wise to learn from your opposition. Be wise to learn from your Herod.
Hebrews 5: 8 says: “Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;”
Declare With Me: I will learn from my opposition; I will not miss the lessons of my battles, in Jesus’ name!
