KNOW WHEN TO HIDE

“But Jehosheba, the daughter of king Joram, sister of Ahaziah, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him from among the king's sons which were slain; and they hid him, even him and his nurse, in the bedchamber from Athaliah, so that he was not slain.” (2 Kings 11: 2)

That is the Focal Scripture of Streams of Joy Devotional today.

When help came the way of Joash in our Focal Scripture, he was hidden, himself and his nurse, away from the wicked eyes of Athaliah. The strategy of preservation for Joash, was to hide him. If Joash had been exposed to Athaliah, he would have been killed; and Jehosheba seemed to know this, and she hid him, for six long years. Joash was still a baby, unable to save himself or fight for himself, and he was hidden for six years.

Friend, there is wisdom in knowing when to hide. Hide your Joash. Hide that little seed that has capacity to become king. Know when to keep your Joash away from the eyes of Athaliah. Know when to keep your important things away from wicked eyes. Know when to lie low, away from the needless attention of those who want to stifle the great thing that is rising. Know when to keep your future enthronement a secret from the eyes of men.

Athaliah could not kill Joash, not because she lacked capacity to kill him, but because he was already kept away from where her eyes could see him. Sometimes, the only way to preserve what you have is to keep it away from the eyes of those who should not see it. Sometimes, safety lies in the wisdom of hiding. The Athaliah’s of this world cannot destroy what they have not seen; so keep your ‘Joash’ away from them.

Notice that Joash had been crowned as king before Athaliah even realized that he was still alive. What needed to be done, was completed, before Athaliah saw it with her eyes. Sometimes, keep your Joash in hiding until he becomes king. Don’t announce your Joash to the Athaliah’s of this world before they scuttle the kingship that is ahead. Don’t make the mistake of screaming your Joash at the rooftop when there is work to be done.

Glean the wisdom of Jehosheba: hide your ‘Joash’ until he becomes ‘King’. Don’t be in a hurry to announce what should be kept a secret. Don’t be in a hurry to announce what should be under lock and key.

Luke 1: 80 says: “And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his shewing unto Israel.”

Declare With Me: I will hide my ‘Joash’ until the time is right, in Jesus’ name!
