GIVE GIFTS

“And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.” (Matthew 2: 11)

That is the Focal Scripture of Streams of Joy Devotional today.

When the wise men came to where Jesus was, they came with gifts. They were coming to greatness, and they came with gifts for the great child they came to honour. Wise men saw greatness, and they came with gifts to celebrate greatness. Wise men came with what they could offer to greatness. They didn’t come to take from greatness. They came to give to greatness. They came with gifts to be offered to greatness.

Friend, when you come in contact with greatness and great men, be intentional to come with gifts. Give to the great. Offer gifts to great men. Offer gifts to people ahead of you. Celebrate the greatness of people around you with gifts. Do not show up in the midst of the great and all you desire is to take from them. Even if the great are good to you, be intentional to also give gifts to them. Don’t withhold your gifts from great men around you.

Notice that these wise men were actually going to see a baby, but they brought gifts that were fitting for adults. They brought gold which is fitting for kings. They brought frankincense which was like perfumes. They also came with myrrh, which was oil. They brought gifts that looked like His future. Give people gifts that look like their future. Look beyond their present state and gift them what will be a peep into their tomorrow.

I pray for you: may you also come in contact with people who will gift you according to your future. May God send you men who will give you what resembles your future. Sometimes, the gifts you will receive will be the gift of direction. Sometimes, it would be the gift of discipline and rebuke that looks like your future. Don’t miss the point of a gift you have received because it looks like the future rather than the present.

Welcome to that season where you must give gifts to people around you. Welcome to that season where you will give and receive gifts that look like your future.

Proverbs 18: 16 says: “A man's gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.”
