“But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men children alive.” (Exodus 1: 17)

That is the Focal Scripture of Streams of Joy Devotional today.

The Hebrew midwives were instructed by Pharaoh to kill all the male children birthed by the Hebrew women; but because they feared the Lord, they refused to do the bidding of Pharaoh. Pharaoh wanted them to do evil, but because they feared the Lord, they preferred to disobey Pharaoh. They were caught in between the fear of God and the command of Pharaoh, but they chose to fear God instead of obeying Pharaoh.

Friend, you will find yourself torn in between the words of Pharaoh and the God you love. You will find yourself in that place where the systems of the world are inviting you to go in one direction, but the word of the Lord demands otherwise. There will be times when your walk with God would be tested severely, by the Pharaoh’s of this world; but always choose God over Pharaoh. Choose to please God, instead of mere mortals.

Notice that it was the king that ordered the Hebrew midwives to do evil, but they chose their fear of God over and above the fear of kings. In your journey through life, you will come face to face with this sort of scenarios, where kings are calling for evil, and the God you serve is asking you to say no. Be wise to always choose the God you love over the king that promised a reward. Choose to do right even if kings are involved.

The Hebrew midwives were part of Israel; they were covenanted to God; and they valued their covenant over and above the pleasure of the king. Don’t allow any king to make you compromise your covenant with God. Never allow any situation to take the lead ahead of your walk with God. Never allow the desire to please men to get in the way of your commitment to please God. Choose God over men; choose God over the kings of this world.

When the chips are down, who would you rather please? The king who can be cast in the sea by God, or the God who can save you from the king?

Acts 5: 29 says: “Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.”

Declare With Me: I choose God over men; I choose God over the kings of this world, in Jesus’ name!
