WORK LIKE A SERVANT

“When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom,” (John 2: 9)

That is the Focal Scripture of Streams of Joy Devotional today.

It is instructive to note that when it was time for Jesus to turn water into wine, the only people in the party in Cana of Galilee that participated in the process, were the servants. Jesus ordered the servants to fill the waterpots with water, and they did, in the midst of people who were celebrating and having fun. Servants ignored the glitz and glamour of the ceremony in order to set the stage for a mind-blowing miracle.

Friend, in this season, work like a servant. Be that man that will be on the grind when others have given up. Be that man that will still be standing when others have gone down. Be that one that will ignore personal pleasure and rather choose to work for the next big thing. Be that one that is not ashamed to labour while others are relaxing and resting. Be that one that will push for greater things to manifest when others are content.

Some men in that wedding in Cana were simply enjoying what had been brought forth, but it was the servants that joined Jesus to make the new wine. It was the servants that joined in making something special and something better to come forth. It may be more convenient to sit back and enjoy what others brought forth, but in this season, be the one that will roll up your sleeves and cause new things to emerge.

In John 4, Jesus told His disciples to pray that the Lord of harvest would send labourers into the vineyard. Hear this: the only room in the kingdom is for labourers; there is no space for executives. Wisdom demands that you work like a servant whilst thinking like a boss. Wisdom demands that you roll up your sleeves and work while others have gone to sleep in destiny. Wisdom demands that you work even when it is not convenient.

Remember, Jesus’ first miracle on earth had need of people who could work like servants. Be intentional to work like a servant.

Proverbs 22: 29 says: “Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.”
