DAILY DEVOTIONAL

Everyday, we bring you the Streams of Joy devotional to enable you start your day soaked in God's Word and declaring God's counsel over your life.

WEAR YOUR IDENTITY

“And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And so he did. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me.” (Acts 12:8)

That is the Focal Scripture of Streams of Joy Devotional today.

In our Focal Scripture, the Angel of the Lord told Peter to wear his garment. So, Peter had been stripped of his garment whilst in prison. In bible times, people wore dresses according to their identity in society. So, before Peter left the prison, he wore his identity. He was not about to enter the new season whilst looking like the old season he was exiting. He was not about to enter a new season without the identity God gave him.

Friend, as you exit your old season and enter your new season, remind yourself of your identity in Christ. See yourself the way God sees you. Remind yourself that you are seated with Christ, beyond the reach of principalities and powers. Remind yourself that you are the righteousness of God through Christ Jesus. Remind yourself that you are the head and not the tail. Remind yourself that you are God’s workmanship.

The Angel of the Lord was ready to take Peter out of prison, but Peter needed to wear his garment by himself. He needed to put on his identity by himself. It may be God’s responsibility to take you into your new season, but it is your own responsibility to wear your identity as a garment. God can move you forward, but you would have to decide on what you would be known for after you have risen to your next level.

Imagine if Peter stepped out of prison with no clothes and no identity; he would have been in a new season, yet looking like his old season. It is an error to enter your new season, yet wearing the look of your old season. It is an error to enter into your new, whilst still stuck in whatever that represents the old. It is an error to emerge from the old, and still be an ambassador of the old. It is an error to come forth without your identity.

Welcome to that season when your identity in Christ cannot be inconsistent with your physical realities. Welcome to that season where you will not look like your old season.

Ephesians 2: 10 says: “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.”

Declare With Me: As I enter my new season, I wear my identity in Christ, in Jesus’ name!
