A CRY FOR MERCY

“And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou Son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil.” (Matthew 15: 22)

That is the Focal Scripture of Streams of Joy Devotional today.

In our Focal Scripture, the woman who came out of the coasts of Canaan cried unto Jesus for mercy. Jesus had already told His disciples that He was sent to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. Jesus was not yet ready to attend to the needs of the Gentiles. He was not ready for that woman of Canaan. It was not even their turn yet, but she cried for mercy, and mercy opened the door for her miracle. She cried for mercy and her story changed.

Friend, when everything fails, mercy does not fail. When your qualification fails, mercy will not fail. When your efforts fail, mercy will not fail. When the odds are not in your favour, mercy can turn the tide and cause everything to work in your favour. When the reports of men fail you, mercy will not fail. When you are left out of the list of those to be chosen, mercy will not fail. When you have failed all by yourself, mercy does not fail.

Today, I pray for you: let mercy arise and speak for you. Concerning that report that is not in your favour, let mercy speak for you. Concerning that verdict that wants to take you down, let mercy speak for you. Concerning that door that has been shut against you, let mercy speak for you. Concerning that opposition that is too big for you to handle, let mercy speak for you. Concerning that miracle that seems impossible, let mercy speak for you. Let mercy change your story.

On the day that Jesus showed mercy to blind Bartimaeus (see Mark 10 vs. 46-52), blindness was rolled away and the status of Bartimaeus changed for good. Hear me as I hear the Lord: that situation that is beyond the help of man will be rolled away by the mercy of God. That situation that has defied medical intervention shall bow to the mercy of God. That miracle that only God can bring shall come on the platter of mercy.

Remember, mercy is the prerogative of God. When life throws negative judgements at you, call on the mercy of God to speak for you, and it will.

Psalm 102: 13 says: “Thou shalt arise, and have mercy upon Zion: for the time to favour her, yea, the set time, is come.”

Declare With Me: O Lord, show me mercy, in Jesus’ name!
